Icing Sugar For Cake Decorating – If you need a cookie decorating alternative to traditional royal icing, this easy cookie frosting is a great choice. It’s like a very thick opaque glaze that comes with a fork, whisk, and mixing bowl. This cookie icing takes about 24 hours to dry, and you won’t be able to get the intricate details that you can with royal icing, but if you want easy cookie icing, this is it! All of the cookies pictured in this post use this frosting.
If you are looking for professional frosting with perfect piping details and cute, use royal icing. I like this royal icing and often use it to decorate sugar cookies, but it can be finicky. You need the right consistency to get the royal icing to pipe, set, and dry properly—it takes practice and patience. However, before starting with the royal icing, I used a simple cookie frosting for now. It’s still one of my favorite ways to decorate sugar cookies because it’s low maintenance but still gives pretty (and delicious) results. Plus, it’s great for kids and beginners, and it’s easy to master.
Icing Sugar For Cake Decorating
You can use this icing on cookie dough cookies, such as these sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, and brown sugar cookies. You can even use shortbread cookies or drizzle over cookie spray. I even used it in some of the Halloween cookies and Christmas sugar cookies pictured here. You can also use it to make Valentine’s Day cookies, Easter cookies, and fireworks celebration cookies. (Note, the photo in this recipe shows royal icing, but this cookie icing is suitable for less complicated designs.)
The Best Buttercream Frosting
For the frosting, you’ll need powdered sugar, water, vanilla extract (replace the water to keep the frosting pure white, or use clear vanilla extract), corn syrup, and a little salt. The frosting is very dry and has a slight crunch, so you can easily stack decorated sugar cookies and take them with you anytime.
The ratio of sugar and water in the candy factory keeps the icing thick. If you pour a small amount of frosting from the mixer into the bowl, the ribbon of frosting will remain for a few seconds before melting back into the frosting. That’s when you know it’s the right consistency.

You can keep the icing white or color it any color you want. Use gel food coloring because liquid food coloring will change the consistency. I love the AmeriColor brand; you can find gel colors in the baking aisle of craft stores, or do a quick search online. I use it and recommend it
Decorating Poppy Seed Cake With Icing …
The frosting takes at least 24 hours to dry, but you can eat it before the frosting dries. This takes longer than royal icing, which usually dries in 2 hours.
PS: If you want to decorate the cookies with buttercream frosting, use this vanilla buttercream. Feel free to reduce the milk/cream with a spoon to keep it on the thicker side.

How To Make Royal Icing
This frosting has a smooth and silky texture, making it easy to mix and dissolve – perfect for making frosting and buttercream!

Any order containing a product listed as a pre-order will be placed on hold until the ordered item arrives. Orders containing pre-orders cannot be split and if additional items are required before the estimated delivery date, these items must be ordered separately.
